An explosive spectacle of pounding rhythms and angelic wails to the likes of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Jane's Addiction and The Mars Volta, she comes with the Sirens' songs from a most peculiar place of all places... Proximity Butterfly is a highly philosophically charged project from Chengdu, China that began in August of 2003. She consists a drummer, bass, saxophone/ trumpet/ clarinet, and guitarist/vocalist coming from France, Canada, Germany and America. The story of the band expresses the maturity that exists in its seriousness towards the human subject. It is as if ¡°she becomes the conundrum of herself; that which brings her own flight and being.¡±
Ever since the inception of this project, Proximity has bedazzled crowds all through-out China¡¯s underground scene. And this is by no means the extent of their dedication. For years, Proximity has been the forefront of Chengdu bands by overcoming what many simply accepted as the impossible. At the time of the band¡¯s first show at Dianze Keji University, there were only two places to play in a city of tens of mllions of people. This would act more as a catalyst than an obstacle. The band began contacting various bars and setting up shows all throughout the city, playing hundreds and hundreds of shows in the next year, upping the standards of sound quality, light display, and community. One Book, One Child was an example of their dexterity and motivation.Working with NGOs PB planned a two show series inviting Ashura, The Wheels, a Scottish DJ and MC Dougle, which raised over 2,000 books for libraries in Sichuan province. ![]() |
